Rebecca owns her journey

Today we would be looking at Rebecca owning her journey in Genesis 25

In this study, the tools we would use for this study are

  1. Who, What, When, Where, and How tool
  2. What does it mean?
  3. How does it apply to me today?

So let’s dig in and turn the bible to Genesis 25

Who, What, When, Where, and How tool

When using the “Who, What, When, Where, and How tool” we go through the scripture we look at the characters in the passage, the way the passage is being reported. What is the passage about, who are the characters that are interacting in this story, when did it happen, where did it happen, how did it happen, and what are the intricate elements of the things you notice as you read this passage. This is the first stage of studying the bible study.

In Genesis 25, we

Rebecca and Issac became husband and wife when Issac was 40 years old.

Isaac prayed for his wife to have children

Rebecca became pregnant

The pregnancy was challenging

Rebecca prayed, and God reassured her, told her she was having twins and also the destiny of the children.

Rebecca gave birth to twin boys as God had told her

Rebecca gave birth to twins, their first offspring when Issac was 60 years old.

.

What does it mean tool?

When using the What does it mean tool, we explore  Why did the person react the way they did? Why did the person do what they did?  Why why why. The most important why is why did God allow this story to be recorded for us?

Rebecca is married to Issac when Isacc was 40 years and when Issac was about 60 years they didn’t have any children. If the promise God made to Abraham was going to be fulfilled then Isaacs knew Rebecca needs to have children to carry on the promise of God.

Isaacs who had experienced his father’s faith and walked with God. As a teenager Isacc saw God miraculously provided a lamb for the sacrifice that saved his own life.

He didn’t repeat the pattern of Abraham and Sarah by taking up another woman but rather he approached God and prayed that his wife would have children because he believed children come from God. Issac himself was a miracle, his mum had 90 years.

Isaac prayed for his wife to have children.

Rebecca is pregnant which would have been a delight to the couple. However, Rebecca is having quite a difficult pregnancy. She approaches God by herself. Her awareness and the results of her husband’s prayer has made their desires for a child to be within their grasp. Her walk of faith in God, made her approach God in prayers

God told her why. God told her what was happening in her belly and its implications for the future. She would have twin boys but the older son will serve the younger son.

On delivery day it was God had told her, indeed she had twins with the younger son holding unto the heel of his elder brother.

How does it apply to me today?

The tool is curing out the lessons that we have learnt from the above tools and then applying to our lives today.

Growing in her relationship with God. As Rebecca joined Isaac’s household she must have learnt about the God of Abraham. And we can see her faith as grown that Rebecca learns to enquire from God by herself. She is taking on the faith and walking the walk of faith she saw in the family of Abraham

How is my walk of faith, how is your walk of faith? Have we grown? Our walk faith must grow like Paul said Philippians 3: 13-14

… but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.

Like Rebecca we too often ask why is this or that happening? While it is God’s prerogative to disclose or not to disclose the reason “Why something is happening”. However, God reassures us in His word that

Jer29:11 – For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

And in

Romans 8: 28

And we know that God causes everything to work together[m] for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

So when we can’t wrap our heads around why something is happening, we can hold onto God’s word.

Thank you
